EdgeCortix is a Japanese fabless semiconductor company specializing in energy-efficient AI processing for edge devices.

The company uses a technique called "hardware and software co-exploration" to design AI-specific runtime reconfigurable processors. EdgeCortix's suite of software and AI chip products accelerates AI inference tasks for computer vision, natural language processing, and GenAI applications with low power and low latency across edge systems.

The company's key offerings include MERA, a heterogeneous compiler software framework compatible with multiple hardware platforms; Dynamic Neural Accelerator (DNA), a scalable, runtime-reconfigurable neural network processor intellectual property (IP); and the SAKURA AI co-processor device based on TSMC's 12nm FinFET technology. These products form an integrated platform for real-time AI applications with streaming data, such as high-resolution cameras, sensors, autonomous systems, signal processing, and multi-model GenAI systems.

The company makes machine learning solutions accessible by offering near-cloud-level AI performance at the edge and claims to provide over 10x the performance and energy efficiency of traditional GPUs, CPUs, and other processors.

Key customers and partnerships

The company has a strategic collaboration with semiconductor company Renesas Electronics Corporation, integrating its MERA compiler, software, and toolset with Renesas' AI/ML chipsets.

EdgeCortix has partnered with BittWare, a manufacturer of enterprise-class FPGA accelerators, to embed its DNA IP and software framework into BittWare's Intel Agilex FPGA-based accelerator cards, delivering high-performance, low-latency AI inference solutions using standard machine learning frameworks.

EdgeCortix has also collaborated with OpenFive, a provider of custom silicon solutions, to develop a power-efficient custom 12nm FinFET SoC that accelerates AI processing for real-time edge applications.
