CellRev's solutions increase cell yield, mitigate cell death, and permit cell detachment without impacting cell functionality. The company's technology originated from research conducted at Newcastle University, where a proof-of-concept paper was published in 2017, demonstrating the ability to continuously grow, detach, and collect adherent cells. This breakthrough solution enables more efficient and affordable cell processing, addressing a significant challenge in scaling up adherent cell culture processes.

In December 2023, CellRev secured GBP 1.05 million in an investment round led by the North East Innovation Fund, Happiness Capital, and CPT Capital, along with GBP 330,000 in grant funding from Innovate UK. The company spun out of Newcastle University in 2019 and plans a full product launch in 2024.
