Mycorena (acquired by Naplasol)

Overview
News

Mycorena is a Swedish mycoprotein producer, founded in 2017, that develops fungi-based technology for food ingredients. The company's flagship product, Promyc, is a mycoprotein ingredient produced through fungal fermentation in bioreactors. Promyc is characterized by its neutral taste and fibrous texture, serving as a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids. In April 2023, Mycorena commercially launched Mycolein, a clean-label fungi-based fat that mimics animal fat's behavior while containing 85% less saturated fat than coconut fat and providing 40% fat reduction compared to traditional fats. The company operated a demonstration facility in Gothenburg with the capacity to produce enough mycoprotein ingredients to supply up to 500 tons of end-consumer products.

In August 2024, after facing financial challenges and filing for bankruptcy in July 2024, Mycorena was acquired by Naplasol, a member of the Belgian VEOS group. Following the acquisition, Naplasol began producing Promyc at its industrial facility in Bree, Belgium.
