NUMU Vegan, founded in 2017, produces plant-based mozzarella and targets its products toward pizzerias and other food services. The company uses GMO-free soybeans, potato starch, and coconut oil as its base ingredients to produce vegan mozzarella, which is currently available in shredded and fresh blocks. NUMU’s vegan mozzarella is available in several states, including pizzerias in New York, New Jersey, and Long Island, as well as select locations in Canada. The company’s cheese is available in Whole Foods Market’s pizza bars nationwide.
Funding and financials
In September 2021, NUMU foods closed its Series A funding round raising an undisclosed amount, co-led by Unovis Asset Management and Clear Current Capital. The company aims to use the funding to fuel product development, marketing, and to establish more distribution channels.
