Cala is a French startup that develops a pasta-making robotic kiosk capable of preparing up to 400 dishes per hour. The robot is fully automated and can handle the entire process of prepping, cooking, and plating pasta, and cleaning up afterward.
The company has a robotic kiosk operational at its restaurant, which opened in Paris in 2020. Customers can place orders either via the attached touchscreen at its kiosks, or via meal delivery apps such as UberEats or Deliveroo. The robot has reportedly prepared 25,000 meals since launch, with gross merchandise value (GMV) growing at 92% month-on-month.
In October 2021, Cala raised EUR 5.5 million (USD 6.4 million) in a seed funding round, led by Backed VC to produce more robots to expand its footprint in France (adding 5–6 restaurants in H1 2022) and the rest of Europe, and to expand its engineering, product, and operations teams.
