Veeve develops a snap-on device that can be retrofitted into traditional shopping carts to convert them into smart carts. The device enables users to scan product barcodes as the items are added to the shopping cart and complete their purchase using a built-in payment reader. The device uses computer vision technology to detect unscanned items.
Veeve places a heavy focus on retail media and provides an engagement platform that is aimed at increasing shopper awareness of promotional products. The veeve’s smart cart device provides customers access to in-store content, location-aware deals and coupons, shoppable recipes and video recipes. It uses a visual positioning system that can identify the location of the cart to guide customers to items within the store.
Key customers and partnerships
Veeve has customer partnerships with grocery and supermarket retailers including Safeway, Tom Thumb, Metropolitan Market, Kroger (December 2021), and Albertsons (May 2022). In January 2024, Veeve partnered with the Qatar-based Al Meera Consumer Goods Company to launch smart carts at Al Meera’s branches.
Funding and financials
In October 2022, Veeve raised USD 6.7 million in a venture round led by Foothill Ventures and Creative Ventures. The company plans to use the new funding to enable more computer vision-related experiences such as product recognition in aisles and loss prevention.
