Ahold Delhaize introduced a shelf-scanning robot named Marty, in partnership with Badger Technologies. The Marty robots are used for identifying and reporting hazards including spilled powder, liquid, and bulk food items. The company was working to program these robots to identify empty slots and improve shelf level inventory performance. The company initially introduced this technology at two of its Giant brand stores in 2018, with plans to expand to 500 Giant, Martin’s, and Stop & Shop stores by the end of 2019.

Marty will be deployed at over 300 Stop & Shop stores in the northeast US.
