Bedrock Ocean Exploration is a New York-based company that provides a platform for collecting and managing seafloor datasets across a wide range of marine surveys, including geophysical, hydrographic, and unexploded ordnance (UXO). Bedrock gathers ocean data through portable AUVs, which support missions in water depths of less than 300 m and/or within 90 km of shore at depths of up to 1,000 ft. They operate for 12- or 24-hour missions, typically at a speed of two to three knots (equivalent to less than 5 mph).
The company's data platform, Mosaic, is a cloud-native platform that is a single place to access, manage, and share seafloor data. Bedrock aims to provide a freely accessible map of oceans that is ~50x more detailed than the best public map available. The platform offers an initial allocation of 50 GB of free ocean data storage. As of August 2023, its pricing and plans were tailored to a diverse user base: Individuals can benefit from a free plan, small teams can access it for USD 65/month, organizations can leverage its features for USD 325/month, and enterprises have the option to choose customized solutions to meet their specific needs.
According to the company, the complete package (AUV and Mosaic) promises to accelerate ocean data collection by 10x. In March 2023, the company conducted its first set of sea trials off the coast of California. As of March 2023, Bedrock has completed a total of 237 fully autonomous test missions.
