Tarana Wireless is a telecommunications company that has developed a wireless access platform, called “Gigabit 1” (G1). The G1 platform utilizes a combination of high-gain antenna array and specialized software-defined radio (SDR) technology to provide connectivity for mobile network operators.
Tarana's technology uses a combination of advanced interference mitigation, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) performance, and high throughput capabilities to overcome noisy radio frequency environments and establish a connection without a direct line of sight between the base station and customer premises equipment. The G1 platform consists of base nodes that are integrated packages with antennas, power amplifiers, digital signal processing, managed Ethernet switching, and 10G optical network interfaces and remote nodes. Each base node can reportedly serve up to 250 homes and four base nodes on a tower can serve 1,000 homes.
During 2022, the company reported revenue close to USD 100 million in sales for G1.
Key customers and partnerships
As of September 2023, G1 was adopted by over 200 service providers in 21 countries,
including telecommunications service providers, such as MTN Group, BT Group, and Liberty Global, and wireless solution providers, such as Wisper Internet, Redzone Wireless, and Resound Networks. In April 2024, US cable service provider Mediacom Communications selected Tarana's G1 platform to expand broadband services in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina as part of a government-funded program. In August 2024, the company partnered with UScellular to enhance home and business internet services in West Plains, Missouri, with three UScellular towers equipped with Tarana's next-generation FWA platform.
