Summus uses algorithms to match patients with appropriate specialists based on factors such as the physician's training, areas of expertise, research, clinical outcomes, procedure volume, and patient preferences. The platform integrates various techniques, including video conferencing, electronic health records, and imaging systems, to facilitate comprehensive virtual consultations.

In February 2022, Summus launched Summus Wellbeing, a program grounded in Lifestyle Medicine that enables employers to help employees and family members maintain healthier lives through personalized virtual journeys with health experts. The program focuses on six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine: nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress management, risky behavior reduction, and social connectedness.

As of August 2024, the company provided care in over 120 specialties and subspecialties through its network of over 5,100 specialists. The company offers its platform on a B2B2C basis, working with enterprise clients, health plans, healthcare providers, and medical groups to provide its services.

In May 2022, Summus announced a collaboration with Boston Children's Hospital to support innovative ways to scale specialist expertise and reach more patients and families worldwide. As part of this collaboration, Summus supports Boston Children's Online Second Opinion Program, helping more families access the hospital's expertise. Since its inception, the program has supported thousands of families across the globe, with 68% of consultations resulting in some change in recommended treatment.
