Outer produces outdoor furniture as well as rugs, throw pillows, and blankets, made from ocean plastic waste and other recycled material.  For instance, each Outer chair is made from around 100 ocean plastic bottles, and the 100% recyclable Outer sofa constitutes 30%  recycled materials.  The company follows a direct-to-consumer model and operates a Neighborhood Showroom program to sell its products. This works as a collaboration with its customers to display its products in customers’ homes or backyards and allow shoppers to visit and get firsthand experience of its products.

As of September 2022, the company offers its products in 44 states in the US and expanded to Australia in late 2021.

In September 2023, Outer renewed its contract with leading digital marketing agency adQuadrant for the development of marketing campaigns.

Funding and financials

In September 2021, the company raised USD 50 million in a Series B funding round led by Capital Today, Tribe Capital, C Ventures, and Upfront Ventures. The funds were to be directed toward expanding its product offerings beyond furniture and rugs, further developing recycled materials used, and advancing its reach.
