TinyTap is an educational technology company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. It offers a user-generated content (UGC) platform that enables educators to create and distribute interactive educational games and content while earning a usage-based revenue share. Founded in 2012, TinyTap was acquired by Animoca Brands, a leading Web3 gaming and open metaverse company, in June 2022 for around USD 39 million.
TinyTap's platform utilizes a code-free authoring tool, allowing teachers and publishers to develop educational games and activities without any coding knowledge. These games can be accessed by parents as part of TinyTap's subscription service or purchased directly as bundles called "Courses". The content creators receive a portion of the revenue based on user engagement with their content.
As of April 2023, TinyTap's library consists of over 250,000 educational activities created by educators and renowned publishers such as Sesame Street and Oxford University Press. The app focuses on delivering content for young learners from pre-kindergarten to grade six and has served over 9.2 million registered families, primarily in the US, Canada, Europe, and the Arab world. TinyTap is among the top 10 grossing kids apps worldwide and generated revenues of USD 17.6 million from 2019 through April 2022.
In 2022, TinyTap introduced a new Web3 strategy involving "Publisher NFTs", which represent co-publishing rights to a Course. These NFTs empower educators by allowing them to receive a share of the proceeds from NFT sales and ongoing revenue generated through co-publishing efforts with buyers of the NFTs. The first two auctions of Publisher NFTs in Q4 2022 generated approximately USD 560,000, with a significant portion distributed to the participating educators.
