Based in France, A3 Biometric Connections (A3BC) offers a biometric payment terminal, “VAULT.A” for in-store and online checkout which uses fingerprints and finger veins to verify individuals for payments, identification, and access control. Users must enroll their biometrics in the A3BC app (or enrollment kiosk) and can link their payment methods, after which they can make payments using the A3BC in-store touchless authentication system. The company is reportedly compliant with GDPR and PSD2 in handling its data and completing payments.
By using finger veins, the technology offers anti-spoofing as it checks for liveness and cannot be defrauded by fake fingerprints. The company partnered with a global retailer, Carrefour, in February 2019 to roll out its technology in Carrefour Green Court, Romania.
The company also partnered with biometric authentication solution provider, Worldline, to integrate A3BC’s authentication tech into the Worldline Authentication platform. The combined offering will provide two-factor authentication, which includes possession (smartphone ownership) and inherence (fingerprint and vein biometric).
