Trashy, formerly Pulp Pantry, is an innovative snack company that produces chips from upcycled vegetable pulp. Trashy claims its chips are vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, and packed with fiber, containing five grams per serving. The chips come in four flavors: Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar, Jalapeño Lime, and Barbecue.
As of October 2024, Trashy sources vegetable pulp from large juice manufacturers. By repurposing this nutrient-rich byproduct, the company saved over 228,000 pounds of food waste since its inception in 2019. The chips are made with minimal processing to preserve nutrients and flavor. In addition to upcycled vegetable pulp, ingredients for the chips include cassava, chia seeds, and other plant-based components.
The company appeared on Shark Tank in 2022, where it secured a deal with Mark Cuban for USD 500,000 in exchange for 17% equity. Following the Shark Tank appearance, the company experienced a boost in orders and brand awareness.
In April 2024, the company rebranded from Pulp Pantry to Trashy, with a continued mission of reducing food waste through innovative snack products.
