North Carolina based 108Labs is pioneer in mammary cell agriculture and is responsible for the science behind Biomilq’s cell cultured human milk. Co-founded by Shayne Guiliano and Dr. Leila Strickland (also a co-founder of biomilq) in 2013,
In March 2021, the startup introduced Colostrupedics, a whole-human infant formula that is the first animal-free infant formula exclusively comprising of cell-cultured human milk molecules derived from human mammary cell agriculture formulated with broadly-neutralizing human secretory antibodies. Colostrupedics contains patent-pending human cell-cultured ingredients comprising complex sugars, probiotic HMO, bioactive human proteins, and calorically dense human lipids.
In order to decrease production costs and increase scalability of its Colostrupedics whole-human infant formula, 108Labs started building the world’s first autonomous milk Cellufacturing factory in Hillsborough, North Carolina in 2021. The startup targets a 99% cost reduction through the factory by reducing lab-grown milk costs from ~USD 1,000 per oz to ~USD 1 per oz.
