Carbogenics is a company that turns difficult-to-recycle food, farm, and paper waste into a product called CreChar. CreChar is a carbon-rich, porous material designed to stabilize the performance of anaerobic digestion plants, which use natural biological processes to break down organic waste. It enhances green energy production from food and farming waste while permanently sequestering carbon in soils, contributing to a Net Zero future.
Based on successful lab and industrial trials, Carbogenics planned to build its first production facility in Perthshire by spring 2024 to launch CreChar in the UK anaerobic digestion market. The company was also doubling its size by creating new roles across production, operations, and business development.
Carbogenics was spun out from the University of Edinburgh in 2016, with initial funding from Old College Capital, the University's venture investment fund. The company's technology was developed at the University's School of Geosciences. In June 2023, Carbogenics secured over GBP 1 million in investment from Green Angel Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, and Old College Capital to establish its first research, development, and production facility in Scotland. If the company has been acquired, details of the acquisition would be included here.
