Terradepth

Terradepth is a Texas-based company that provides ocean-data-as-a-service (ODaaS) by collecting ocean data through its autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) and delivering to its cloud-based geospatial data management solution, Absolute Ocean (AO). The company’s AUV can reach depths of up to 6,000 m and provides insights. Terradepth’s AUVs are battery-operated and launched from smaller vessels that require less fuel, generate less noise, and eliminate the risk of vessels striking mammals.

AO provides visualization, analysis, and collaboration to internal and external stakeholders to manage existing ocean data, as well as collaborate on new data in near real-time. In addition to the real-time data collected from AUVs, Terradepth has populated Absolute Ocean with thousands of publicly available datasets (including sidescan sonar, synthetic aperture sonar, magnetometer grids, multibeam bathymetry, LiDAR, and satellite imagery).

Key customers and partnerships

• In January 2022, Terradepth acquired three Teledyne Gavia (a leading manufacturer of modular, low logistics AUVs) AUVs, capable of autonomously collecting high-resolution data 3,000 m deep.

• In August 2022, it acquired CMOR Mapping, a company providing seafloor maps, starting to work alongside Terradepth to enhance Teledyne Gavia's capabilities.

• In August 2022, Terradepth partnered with the Seabed 2030 project to use AO as a data visualization and exploration tool as part of the international effort to map the entire ocean floor.

• In December 2022, S. T. Hudson, which specializes in marine engineering, became the first customer to use AO.

• In January 2024, Terradepth collaborated with Terna to develop a drone for an experimental project for the application of an underwater drone in seabed inspection activities.

• In July 2024, Terradepth announced a strategic partnership with Hypack, a provider of hydrographic survey software, to allow surveyors to run Hypack’s software directly in the cloud through Terradepth’s Absolute Ocean platform.
