DreamBox Learning, founded in 2006, is an online software provider that focuses on adaptive mathematics education for elementary and middle school students (K-8), providing lessons in the form of animated adventures, games, and challenges (“DreamBox Learning Math”). In 2010, DreamBox was acquired by the Charter School Growth Fund. As of July 2021, DreamBox Learning Math was used by nearly six million students and 200,000 teachers across North America, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico.

Products introduced by the company in recent years include DreamBox Predictive Insights (launched in 2020) to provide educators with indicators early in the school year as to how each student is likely to perform on state tests in the spring; DreamBox Lesson Recommendations (launched in June 2021) to provide educators with real-time student progress insights and actionable next steps to meet student learning needs; and Lesson Highlights (launched in April 2022), a data analytics feature that provides teachers insights on how students are learning, solving problems, critical thinking, creativity and responding to challenges. The company continues to add new features and tools to its programs  to assist teachers to track student progress and close learning gaps.

Through the acquisitions of Squiggle Park, an early literacy solution for K-2 students, and Reading Plus, an online reading program to improve literacy skills and reading confidence among students in grade 3-12, in mid 2021, DreamBox entered the English Language Arts (ELA) market. The company now provides a combined, data-driven mathematics and reading solution and believes the dual-discipline platform will support educators close learning gaps caused by the pandemic. As of July 2021, Reading Plus supported more than one million students across more than 7,800 schools.

In September 2022, the company laid off several employees, attributing the decision to a “realignment” at the company to position it for “long-term growth and sustainability.”

In August 2023, Dreambox Learning was acquired by Discovery Education, another EdTech company. Elliot Investment Management, which obtained a majority stake in Dreambox in 2021, will maintain a minority stake alongside existing backer TPG’s The Rise Fund.
