Aura is developing consumer-focused privacy tools, aiming to provide a unified platform for web users to protect themselves from threats such as fraud and identity theft. The company launched its flagship Aura digital security solution in June 2021.

The Aura platform comprises a privacy assistant, allowing users to manage which sites have access to their data using a data broker opt-out program, along with anti-tracking tools, antivirus software, identity theft protection, financial fraud protection, parental controls and safe gaming features, spam call screening, and virtual private network services, as well as a privacy vault and password manager. Aura also provides its users insurance coverage of USD 1 million for identity theft and fraud damages and access to a 24-hour identity theft assistance hotline.

Aura operates on a subscription basis, with packages priced at USD 12 a month for individuals, USD 10 for kids, USD 22 for couples, and USD 32 for families (billed annually), with additional features for families.

Aura acquired digital privacy services company Pango in July 2020 to expand its privacy offering, incorporating the firm’s products into its existing Identity Guard solution, including HotSpot Shield, claimed to be the world’s fastest VPN. The company previously acquired data anonymization firm Figleaf and PrivacyMate, a service that allows users to remove their personal data from third-party sites and data brokers.

The company split into two separate entities in September 2024: Aura, which is focused on consumer privacy, and Pango Group, which covers both the enterprise and consumer spaces. The new Aura entity reported USD 150 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) as of September 2024 and expected to grow 40% YoY.

Key customers and partnerships

As of September 2024, Aura had reportedly partnered with over 1,500 employers to provide over 200 million employees with access to its platform. The company has partnered with organizations in the insurance, telco and ISP, property management, cybersecurity, financial services, and auto dealership industries.
