Estonia-based startup Auther.ai (formerly known as Riddletag) offers a cloud-based software platform using Amazon’s facial recognition technology to provide digital solutions for payment authentication as well as loyalty and upselling solutions.
Merchants can integrate Auther.ai’s facial biometric payment system into self-service checkouts or POS terminals by connecting a camera to a payment device and installing Auther.ai software. Users can link payment cards to their facial biometrics and make payments in stores by looking at the camera instead of using cards or devices.
Auther.ai’s software can also be integrated with merchants’ CRM systems, allowing merchants to identify customers and offer personalized solutions to improve customer loyalty.
Key customers and partnerships
In December 2019, Auther.ai partnered with the Bank of Georgia (the financial service provider to the transit system) to enable passengers at the Tbilisi subway system to pay for their metro tickets using facial biometrics. The companies noted that Auther.ai’s technology can detect faces within 50 milliseconds, allowing users to open turnstiles and make payments in 0.7 seconds instead of the usual 4–5 seconds.
