TerraCOH

TerraCOH uses its proprietary Carbon Dioxide Plume Geothermal (CPG) and Earth Battery technologies to produce baseload, emission-free electricity and grid-scale energy storage. The company captures and stores carbon dioxide from industrial processes underground which in turn is used in the geothermal energy generation process as well as storage of other forms of renewable energy—which enables intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind to be stored and deployed as necessary. 

The use of carbon dioxide as a subsurface working fluid enables TerraCOH’s CPG technology to be more economical at lower resource temperatures while simultaneously giving the company the flexibility to provide on-demand electricity or grid-scale energy storage. The company’s geothermal power generation and energy storage solutions can be deployed across over 50% of the North American landmass, in any place where sedimentary rocks can support carbon dioxide storage. 

As of June 2020, the company was in the process of developing a pilot site in North Dakota to launch its technology.
