Sounder.fm provides machine-learning based brand safety solutions for podcasts, powered by Sounder’s Audio Data Cloud (launched in November 2021) which utilizes its proprietary speech recognition technology and covers both the IAB and GARM advertising safety standards. Advertisers are able to customize ad placement to suit brand guidelines across categories. The platform is able to process an hour of audio content in less than two minutes, generate risk ratings based on brand safety, full podcast transcripts, keywords and summaries. In November 2022, Sounder.fm announced that it would be shutting down its podcasting platform on January 31st, 2023, to focus efforts on its advertising solutions. 

Key customers and partnerships

Sounder’s key customers include creative studio SpokenLayer (provided brand safety solutions in August 2022), digital advertising platform, DAX (to share Sounder’s brand safety information with its network of users in August 2022), audio and entertainment company, Audacy (for brands to invest in Audacy’s catalog in August 2022). 

Key partnerships include that with the largest African American owned and operated multi-media company, Urban One Inc (to conduct research on improving podcast ad technology to ensure equal monetization opportunities for creators of audio content in January 2023), radio broadcasting company iHeartMedia (to provide podcast creators with AI and machine learning tools in February 2022).

Funding and financials

Sounder.fm raised USD 7.7 million in a Series A funding round led by iHeartMedia ( February 2022 ), bringing its total funding to USD 11.55 million. The fresh funds from the Series A will be used to expand its R&D team to build AI and machine learning (ML)-backed creator tools as well as a comprehensive ad system for publishers and advertisers at any scale.
