Avecom is a Belgium-based company that develops microbial fermentation processes to produce proteins from low-value residual by-products, ranging from single-cell proteins for feed and food applications to biopolymers for the production of bioplastics and organic fertilizers. The company's "Power to Protein" gas fermentation platform, developed with water management companies KWR and Allied Waters ( July 2017 ), uses green hydrogen-fueled bacteria to convert CO2 into food-grade protein for the sustainable production of protein-rich food ingredients.
The company has patented processes for upgrading low-value by-products into high-value, protein-rich feed ingredients, including ProMic, ValProMic, and Eximium.
• ProMic (Protein from Microbes) converts co-products and by-products into a protein source through microbial fermentation, ensuring 99% nutrient retention, 100x less water usage, and a 1,000x smaller land footprint.
• Eximium provides a naturally formulated, protein-rich feed with a nutrient profile of 45% crude protein, 10% minerals, and 5% carbohydrates in dry matter.
• ValProMic, developed in partnership with Agristo, Clarebout, and Akwadok in October 2021 , converts residual diluted side streams from potato processing plants into microbial protein, also known as single cell protein (SCP), ideal for applications such as pig feed or aquaculture.
In addition, the company collaborates with industrial partners for R&D and upscaling, utilizing fully equipped labs and FCA-certified facilities for ingredient development, with capacities reaching up to 2,000 liters.
