Ucrop.it is an Argentinian company which aims to provide farmers with agronomic certainty by using blockchain technology to create crop cycle visibility among consumers and connect with farmers. Ucrop believes that connecting farmers with downstream players and providing the latter with certainty on sustainable production practices from the producer’s end will offer farmers better payment and thus improved profitability.

The company achieves this goal via its mobile app, which uses blockchain technology to trace and store data, allowing users to remotely visualise crops from inception to harvest. The farmers can also decide which downstream companies will have access to their crop cycle information in the form of a blockchain-recorded log. In return for being able to check on sustainability practices across the production process, customers will pay farmers better. The company generates revenue based on a SaaS model (USD 1.5/hectare on average for a certainty fee). However, service fee is free for small and mid-sized farmers. The company mainly targets B2B farmers and agricultural companies that are increasingly demanding crop visibility.

The company’s business is currently primarily based in Argentina, but with the seed fund of USD 1.1 million it received in 2021 February, it is attempting to expand its business into key markets such as the US, Brazil, Mexico, and Paraguay. As of now, the company’s services cover 200,000 hectares in Argentina.
