Anaconda is a Python distribution and platform that provides access to thousands of open-source data science and machine learning packages through its repository. Its key offering is the On-Premises Large Language Model (LLM) solution, which enables organizations to create and deploy custom GenAI applications within their own infrastructure. This approach ensures data security and compliance by allowing sensitive information to remain on-site.
The On-Premises LLM is part of Anaconda's Data Science and AI Workbench, providing users with access to open-source LLMs that can be tailored to specific use cases. Additionally, Anaconda's Professional Services team offers implementation support to ensure successful deployment and integration of these models.
As of 2024, Anaconda's platform allowed users to access cloud-hosted Anaconda Notebooks, a browser-based interactive development environment that comes pre-configured and ready to code. Through Anaconda Business, organizations could implement security controls like package filtering, policy management, and vulnerability monitoring.
The platform also included ClearScape Analytics, an engine for deploying end-to-end AI and machine learning solutions. In March 2024, Anaconda expanded its terms of service to require paid licenses for government entities and non-profit organizations with over 200 employees, except when used for teaching classes.
Key customers and partnerships
As of November 2024, the platform served approximately 45 million users, 1.8 million developers and contributors, and 1 million organizations. Notable customers included Meta, Biorad, Citi, and the European Commission.
In April 2024, Anaconda partnered with Teradata to integrate Python and R packages from the Anaconda Repository into Teradata VantageCloud, enabling enterprises to deploy large-scale data science and AI/ML use cases. The partnership gave Teradata VantageCloud Lake customers access to Python packages from the Anaconda Repository at no additional cost, with R packages planned for release by the end of 2024.
In July 2023, Anaconda released Python capabilities for Microsoft Excel users through Anaconda Toolbox, allowing them to run Python code locally on their PCs without relying on Microsoft Cloud.
