When it comes to caring for the climate, it's consumer-driven sentiments that drive regulatory pushes, which ultimately shape a corporate's makeup and orientation, observes Brennan Spellacy, CEO of Patch. Whatever the origin, the need to mitigate and be accountable for carbon footprints is here. So, startups like Patch are solving carbon calculation and offsetting needs by offering its API layer as a meeting ground to sync a buyer and seller to account for and nullify carbon emissions. But in a situation where the outcome is literally invisible (air), building trust and verifying legitimacy can be a challenge. Careful not to position itself between conflicts of interest, Patch shows a nuanced awareness of the intricacies involved in this work. With a thorough focus on distribution as much as research and development, Patch's work on carbon management software connects the communities in need. The next gen of clean-tech looks promising.
