The following report was prepared and published by our sister platform SPEEDA— June 2023.
Trend Overview
Price, Location, and Authentic Experience are the Differentiators of Peer-to-Peer Accommodation Platforms
Peer-to-peer accommodation (P2P) platforms match hosts and guests within the platform for short-term rental accommodation. They have become the preferred option over more conventional hotel accommodations in certain cities. The listings on P2P platforms are different from hotels and are typically houses, apartments, or alternative accommodations that provide a more authentic experience. Affordability and authenticity are the key drivers of this trend. In addition, compared to traditional hotels, P2P accommodation typically has additional space, though it usually lacks dining and housekeeping as in a hotel. Some established players in this space are Airbnb (USA) and Vrbo (USA) (formerly HomeAway), which will be used as references to reflect trends in this report.
