How the Kaseya supply chain hack reached over 1,000 businesses

Kaseya, a US-based IT management software provider, was forced to take down its virtual system administrator (VSA) platform after attackers exploited several vulnerabilities in the software and bypassed authentication systems in the platform’s web interface to infect multiple organizations via a supply-chain attack on July 2. The attack impacted nearly 50 direct customers and between 800 to 1,500 businesses across 17 countries including the UK, South Africa, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Kenya. ConnectWise, a US software services provider, temporarily disabled its ConnectWise Manage software that integrates Kaseya VSA and the Swedish grocery chain Coop had to close down 800 of its stores after the attack shut down its cash registers.
