Fake content is news, stories, or hoaxes that are used to deliberately misinform or deceive readers. It can be broadly categorised as disinformation and mal-information. Disinformation refers to false information that is deliberately created to mislead, harm, or manipulate while mal-information is information that is based on fact, but used out of context to mislead, harm, or manipulate.

The proliferation of fake content has prompted corporations to adopt a proactive approach in detecting and preventing its spread, in light of the potential risks to their reputation and business operations. This report focuses on the types of remedial actions being adopted by different companies to prevent the dissemination of fake content, and the technologically advanced methods being developed to address the issue.
