Logistics connects producers and customers. Logistics operations include the transportation of goods between production areas, factories, and stores, warehouse work (e.g. freight handling, storage), and delivery to the final customer (i.e. last mile delivery). In tandem with the growth of e-commerce, logistics operations are becoming increasingly burdensome due to the expanding volumes and varieties of freight. In transportation and delivery, not only has the volume of work increased, but stricter standards have also been adopted for delivery time, as more customers demand delivery within a specific time frame. Further complicating these issues is the shortage of personnel across the entire supply chain.
