Oxbotica, a UK-based developer of autonomous vehicle software, has raised USD 47 million in a Series B round led by BP Ventures with participation from BGF, Halma, HostPlus, IP Group, Tencent, Venture Science, and funds advised by Doxa Partners. It brings the company’s total fundraising to roughly USD 80 million.
The new capital will be used to accelerate Oxbotica’s go-to-market strategy for its software platform across several industries and markets, including mining and port logistics.
Oxbotica develops its autonomous vehicle software using computer vision and machine learning technologies. The software is offered under two main platforms, Selenium and Caesium, delivering navigation, mapping, perception, machine learning, and fleet management features.
Oxbotica’s system has been used in multiple trials involving autonomous passenger cars in the UK. In addition, the company partnered with supermarket chain Ocado in 2017 to test CargoPod, its autonomous delivery vehicle (ADV), for last-mile grocery delivery in Greenwich, London over a period of two weeks. The CargoPod was able to carry a payload of 282 lbs and cover approximately 18 miles on a single charge at a maximum speed of 25 mph (restricted to 5 mph for the trial).
