Zero Avia and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to develop hydrogen regional jets

Partnerships
Product updates

  • ZeroAvia, a hydrogen-based zero-emission aviation solutions developer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MHI RJ Aviation Group (MHIRJ), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, to develop hydrogen-electric propulsion technology for regional jet applications.

  • The collaboration will leverage ZeroAvia’s hydrogen fuel cell powertrain technology and MHIRJ’s aircraft design, certification, and engineering services to develop new regional jets along with retrofitting existing aircrafts.

  • Zero Avia has completed more than 35 test flights of a Piper M-class six-seat aircraft to date. The company is currently converting a larger 19-seat Dornier 228 aircraft, with test flights planned for the coming months. Zero Avia expects to certify its 19-seat powertrain by 2024, followed by a larger aircraft (50-80 seats) by 2026 and regional jets by 2028.
