Plastic Energy Ltd, a UK-based company offering plastic recycling solutions, has teamed up with Freepoint Eco-Systems (a company that uses an advanced recycling technology to secure and recycle plastic), and TotalEnergies (a global multi-energy company) to build an advanced plastic recycling unit in Texas, which is expected to begin operations in mid-2024.
The facility will use Plastic Energy’s patented technology to convert waste into a recycled feedstock called TACOIL, which will then be used to produce virgin-quality polymers using TotalEnergies’ technology, for the food packaging industry. The new plant is expected to process 33,000 tons of plastic waste annually.
This partnership follows a joint venture established in October 2020 by Plastic Energy and TotalEnergies to build a plastic waste conversion facility in France by early 2023 with an expected annual capacity of 15,000 tons.
The facility caters to the three companies’ joint commitment to develop plastic recycling procedures to address the issue of plastic waste and to build a circular economy in the US and globally.
