On October 27th, 2020, Upwork announced the beta launch of Project Catalog, a marketplace of pre-scoped freelancer services.
The new product emulates an e-commerce-style purchase of freelancer services. Businesses can purchase freelancer services at a fixed price where the freelancer already lists the timing, cost, and scope of the work. Pre-packaged services are composed of existing Upwork categories, such as software development, graphic design, and marketing.
For freelancers, the new product will represent an extended revenue stream and give them the ability to set the project scope. Unlike its core marketplace operation, where buyers set the project scope, Project Catalog follows a similar offering to that of its competitor, Fiverr, with this launch.
Project Catalog will launch to all customers in February 2021.
