OnePointOne, a vertical farming player that supplies its products directly to consumers via its sister company Wilo, partnered with Sakata Seed America to maximize plant output via vertical farming. Sakata Seed America is a subsidiary of the Sakata Seed Corporation that focuses on research, seed production, and marketing distribution.
OnePointOne states that this partnership will give the company access to Sakata’s wide range of advanced genetics and will help the company expand its plant offerings to members.
For Sakata, the partnership is expected to provide the performance data necessary to refine its seed varieties and improve its breeding programs, supporting growth in its Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) business space.
The partnership is considered to offer an expedited avenue for capturing data that would benefit both entities, in turn, improving vertical farming. The large-scale research program between the two companies is stated to have begun at OnePointOne’s facility in San Jose.
Founded in 2017, OnePointOne develops an automated aeroponics growing system to cultivate greens and herbs in urban areas, selling the products directly to consumers under a monthly subscription plan.
