Solana, a blockchain infrastructure provider, experienced a major breakdown that saw network validators knocked out of consensus and block production halted, due to an influx of bots to the NFT minting tool Candy Machine, which operates on the Solana blockchain.
The network reportedly experienced four million transaction requests, which translate to around 100 gigabits of data per second. In response, Metaplex, a Solana NFT infrastructure provider, announced it would deploy a 0.01 SOL “botting penalty” to help NFT projects discourage excessive traffic.
Solana developers are also reportedly yet to diagnose what caused the breakdown or how the botting attack overcame existing safeguards.
