Ace Green to build North America’s largest emission-free battery recycling park

Geographic expansion

 • Indian battery recycling company Ace Green Recycling has announced plans to construct a sustainable battery recycling park in Texas, US. The 400,000 sq ft facility is stated to be North America's largest emission-free battery recycling facility.

 • The facility will recycle both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, with Phase I of its operations focusing on the recycling of lead-acid batteries using Ace Green’s proprietary emission-free recycling technology. Phase I is expected to start by Q3 2023 and will be followed by a facility being constructed for lithium-ion battery recycling in the park. More details on lithium-ion battery recycling will be provided in the upcoming months.

 • The facility, which will employ nearly 100 workers in the US, is expected to be at full capacity by 2025, processing and recycling up to 100,000 metric tons of used lead-acid batteries and 20,000 metric tons of used lithium-ion batteries per year. When fully operational, the park is stated to eliminate 50,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and keep 10 million pounds of hazardous solid waste away from landfills while recycling over 7,500 tons of plastics per year.

 • Ace Green will use its own funds as well as partner with strategic and financial investors to set up the Texas battery recycling park. The company also reported that it is looking to set up new facilities in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East by 2023.

Analyst QuickTake: Upon raising USD 7 million in February 2022, the company mentioned that it plans to expand its team in the US. As planned, with the new facility, Ace Green is strengthening its footprint in North America. The company will now closely compete with peer Redwood Materials, which also has a new 400,000 sq ft facility in progress in Nevada since 2021. It is also reported to have the capacity to process around 60,000 tons of batteries per year. It will be interesting to see if Ace Green can construct its battery facility as planned and compete with Redwood Materials with its emission-free recycling technology.
