Telepsychiatry provider Big Health has received a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for Sleepio, its digital therapeutic (DTx) solution for insomnia.
The app is recommended as an alternative to sleeping pills such as zolpidem and zopiclone within the UK, which have been found to be dependency forming according to NICE.
The recommendation follows clinical evidence submitted to NICE that showed Sleepio to be more effective at reducing insomnia than sleep hygiene and sleeping pills.
Sleepio uses a six-week self-help digital course to treat insomnia and includes using a sleep diary to track sleeping habits, AI-tailored advice on how to improve sleeping habits, sleep tests, and weekly sessions of cognitive-behavioral treatments for insomnia. Sleepio is available for download worldwide via the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
