French mixed reality headset startup Lynx raises USD 4 million in Series A funding

Funding

 • Lynx, a French mixed reality headset startup, has raised USD 4 million in a Series A funding round from social metaverse platform Somnium Space, with participation from ex-Meta and Google engineers. As a result of the investment, the Founder and CEO of Somnium Space, Artur Sychov, will join the company’s board of directors. The round brings the company’s total funding to USD 6.8 million.

 • Stan Larroque, founder of Lynx, stated that the funding secured the company’s supply chain in catering to the “insane demand” that it is witnessing.

Analyst QuickTake: The headset space is dominated by larger companies including Meta, which acquired Oculus in 2014, and sells one of the most affordable headsets in the market at USD 299. There is stiff competition in the space from Microsoft and more recently Apple. Apple’s headset development was initially reported by Bloomberg in January 2021. In late April , it was reportedly granted two mixed reality headset patents and reports emerged last week that development was at an advanced stage.
