Realwear raises USD 23.5 million in Series C funding

Funding

 • Realwear, a developer of hands-free wearable devices that can deliver vital information to industrial workers, has raised USD 23.5 million in a Series C funding round led by Foundry Group. The round also includes the participation of Qualcomm Ventures, Kopin, and Columbia Ventures Corporation.

 • The fresh funds will support the launch of a software and services platform to complement its hardware products.

Analyst QuickTake: Realwear’s enterprise hardware products are sold outright and range USD 2,000 to USD 6,000. BMW, one of its clients, deployed the HMT-1 in its US dealerships to allow technicians to remotely connect to engineering experts located offsite. Other clients include Colgate, Shell, Uros, Globalfoundries, and Airbus. The funds, which will be used to develop a complementary software platform, would allow it to further penetrate the enterprise segment by offering an integrated solution. In addition, the software platform would create a recurring revenue stream for the company.
