Brown Foods, a Boston-based alternative milk startup, has raised USD 2.36 million in a seed funding round, which included the participation of Y Combinator, AgFunder, SRI Capital, Amino Capital, and Collaborative Fund as well as a group of angel investors such as Kunal Shah.
The funding is expected to be used to develop and scale up the cell cultivation bioprocess. According to Co-founder Sohail Gupta, the scale-up process is expected to begin in 2023.
Founded in 2021, Brown Foods is a Y Combinator Winter 2022 alum with a presence in the US and India. The company is developing its debut product “UnReal Milk,” a cultivated real whole milk utilizing mammalian cell culture technology.
