The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that it has received USD 375 million in funding from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support recycling, reuse, and waste prevention programs.
The funds will support new initiatives such as a grant program for developing a solid waste infrastructure for recycling, a recycling education and outreach grant program, and a model recycling program toolkit. The EPA also expects to provide funding to gather best practices for battery collection, recycling, and labeling guidelines.
The EPA reports that it has published three requests for information (ROI) to look out for input on the design of these new materials management initiatives. The ROIs are expected to help the EPA get support from the interested individuals and organizations and are considered the first step in bringing the planned grant programs and guidance to fruition.
In addition, the EPA is also initiating efforts to increase the reach of its development programs to promote a circular economy nationwide.
