Johnson Controls, a smart building infrastructure and technology provider, has acquired cybersecurity company Tempered Networks for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2014, Tempered Networks provides the zero-trust technology, Tempered Airwall, to protect the critical infrastructure systems of smart buildings, hospitals, factories, and more. It uses the host identity protocol and a cloud-based policy orchestration platform to secure and authenticate device communications as data moves between endpoint devices, edge gateways, service technicians, and the cloud, while allowing users to monitor and connect to systems remotely.
Tempered Networks Airwall technology will be integrated with Johnson Controls’ smart building platform, OpenBlue, to create a software-defined security perimeter that protects device-to-device, device-to-cloud, and device-to-user communications of connected buildings globally.
Founded in 1885, Johnson Controls’ OpenBlue platform leverages edge AI and machine learning in the cloud to collect data from buildings, enable data comparisons against optimized AI performance models, and manage building performance in real time. Johnson Controls has a global employee headcount of over 100,000 in more than 150 countries, with annual sales of USD 22 billion. The company serves healthcare, schools, data centers, airports, stadiums, manufacturing, and other sectors.
