Renewcell, a Swedish startup that recycles textile waste into circular material feedstock, has partnered with Swiss textile company HeiQ to manufacture the latter’s circular cellulose filament yarn “HeiQ AeoniQ” from Renewcell’s proprietary “Circulose” pulp.
Circulose is a dissolving pulp product that Renewcell produces from 100% textile waste, such as worn-out jeans and production scraps. The manufacturing process uses 99% less water than conventional cotton yarns.
Initial trials using Circulose as a feedstock to produce the HeiQ AeoniQ yarn have shown promising results, which resulted in the strategic partnership between the two companies. HeiQ AeoniQ designed with Circulose is stated to offer performance properties similar to polyester, nylon, and conventional cellulose yarns.
Through the partnership, the two companies aim to commercialize a 100% circular and biobased y filament yarn that will replace fossil-based fibers like nylon and polyester at scale.
