Massachusetts-based Guardian Agriculture, which uses drones for crop protection, has secured a multi-million dollar partnership with Wilbur-Ellis, a US-based distributor and manufacturer of agricultural products, feed, and specialty chemicals, for the sale of Guardian Ag’s autonomous crop protection drones.
Guardian Ag’s drone is a 15 ft fully electric aircraft that uses the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) system. The drone can carry payloads weighing “hundreds of pounds” for precision spraying of crops and can cover up to 40 acres per hour.
Both companies have worked together over the past year to commercialize Guardian Ag’s crop protection drones. They are also actively working toward obtaining regulatory approval for an anticipated product launch targeting farmers in Salinas Valley, California in 2023.
For Wilbur-Ellis, this partnership will expand its current aerial crop protection offering (includes fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters) to include eVTOL tech drones. Wilbur-Ellis currently offers crop protection solutions covering 5 million acres per year.
