Redwood Materials partners with Volkswagen Group to recycle electric vehicle batteries in the US

Partnerships

 • Nevada-based e-waste recycling startup Redwood Materials has formed a partnership with Volkswagen Group to recycle Volkswagen and Audi electric vehicle brand batteries in the US.

 • As per the partnership, Redwood would work with Volkswagen’s nationwide network of around 1,000 dealers to recover and recycle end-of-life batteries and materials. The spent batteries will be sent to Redwood’s Nevada facility to be remanufactured into anode and cathode components that will be sent back to battery cell manufacturers in the US such as Panasonic.

 • In addition, via the partnership, for the recycling process, Redwood Materials will also integrate prototype batteries from Volkswagen's research facilities such as the Battery Engineering Lab (BEL) in Tennessee.

 • For Volkswagen, the collaboration will support the company in its plan to introduce over 25 new EVs to US consumers through 2030 and ensure 55% of its US sales include EVs by 2030.

For Redwood, this partnership follows the one with Toyota last month, and is the latest addition to its list of partnerships with other popular OEMs such as Proterra, Ford , Volvo, and Panasonic.
