Itero Technologies, a British plastic recycling technology provider, has secured EUR 6 million (~USD 6.1 million) in investment, to primarily support the design and construction of its first at-scale demonstration plant in Geleen, Netherlands. Of the investment, EUR 5 million (~USD 5.1 million) came from Rotterdam-based investment management firm Infinity Recycling's Circular Plastics Fund (CPF), which supports recycling companies to upscale and commercialize their technologies.
The demonstration plant is stated to be able to process 27,000 tonnes of residual plastic waste annually, which is equivalent to the total amount of plastic packaging waste generated by the Amsterdam community per year.
Founded in 2010, Itero has developed a proprietary pyrolysis process to convert plastic waste into high-value chemical products, which can be used as feedstock in the production of virgin-quality plastics. The company is still working on commercializing its technology and is testing its solution at its R&D facility in the UK.
