The US House of Representatives has voted to pass legislation that will extend telehealth reimbursement flexibilities under Medicare until the end of 2024. The Advancing Telehealth Beyond Covid-19 Act was passed (416 voting for and 12 voting against) and will move on to the Senate for further deliberation.
The waiver was originally granted during the Covid-19 public health emergency (PHE). Geographical restrictions were removed and the number of services that could be reimbursed via telehealth was expanded as part of the bill.
Last year, congress passed legislation that would end waivers for telehealth providers 151 days after the end of the PHE, which is set to expire in October 2022.
