Enapter, an Italian anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer manufacturer, has received a grant of EUR 984,000 (USD 1 million) from the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition (MiTE).
The grant funding will be used to conduct R&D activities on the company’s proprietary “AEM Electrolyser EL 4.0.” This involves optimization and industrialization of the dry cathodes for AEM electrolyzers. The R&D will be conducted at Enapter’s Pisa plant in Italy.
The know-how and expertise gained from the research will be deployed for the mass production of AEM electrolyzers at Enapter’s plant in Saerbeck, Germany. The company plans to produce 10,000 AEM green hydrogen generators per month in the Saerbeck plant from 2023 onwards, after an initial start-up and trial period.

The EL 4.0 is a fourth-generation AEM electrolyzer, which is lighter and smaller. Enapter’s customers have already placed nearly 400 orders for the new electrolyzer version.</ul>
