According to an internal memo reported on by Geekwire and Fierce Healthcare Amazon has decided to end Amazon Care by the end of 2022. Amazon launched its Amazon Care service as a pilot program in 2019, offering both in-person and virtual care services to its employees in the Seattle area initially. It then expanded the service to employees across the US in 2020.
The decision to shut down the services comes after leadership concluded that the service is ‘not a complete enough offering’ for the large enterprise clients targeted.
The service will officially shut down on 31 December 2022 and will affect only Amazon Care and its Care Medical group of providers. All other Amazon healthcare services will remain unaffected.
In July 2022 Amazon announced a deal to acquire One Medical , which would expand its presence in the healthcare industry if the deal goes through.
